Don Vappie’s teaching experience is extensive and covers all ages and levels. As an instructor at the Jamison Heritage School of Music in New Orleans, he teaches guitar, banjo, music theory and jazz combo. Vappie also serves as Jazz Guitar Instructor and adjunct faculty member at Loyola University School of Music in New Orleans. In addition, Don often does educational performances, sometimes called “in-formances”, at area elementary and middle schools. Vappie has participated as a tenor banjo instructor and performer at various camps like the Midwest Banjo Camp and as part of Jazz at Lincoln Center he has contributed by transcribing classic recordings of Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong that were made available through Warner Bros. Publishing. He is featured on a couple of JALC short videos demonstrating banjo comping styles.

As a new member of the TrueFire family, Vappie has his own channel where you can view all kinds of tips, demonstrations, interviews and short performances. Subscription levels are available for more in-depth videos, solo transcriptions written in standard notation and TAB as well as course instruction, which allows for students to progress at their own pace. Private lessons are available by appointment only and subject to availability.
